MOT Computerisation
VOSA the Vehicle Operator & Service Agency is the government agency responsible for the MOT.
All MOT tests results are now keyed directly onto a computer central database from one of the 18,400 [approx] testing stations. This central computer record of all current MOT tests was initiated from March 2006. The purpose of this was to combat fraud and significantly improve the integrity and security of the Test Certificates.
Drivers will still receive a paper document from the Testing Station following the vehicle test which still provides the driver the legal ‘proof’ of the MOT having taken place. There is now an electronic record of the Test held on the VOSA computer.
Members of the public can confirm that a vehicle has a valid MOT by either contacting VOSA on 0870 330 044 or visiting their website at www.motinfo.gov.uk.
